Our Stone is Going Digital: 3D Textures Now Available for Landscape Architects & Designers

At Select Stone, we know that seeing is believing. That’s why we’ve invested in new resources for landscape architects and designers, enabling you to create stunningly accurate 3D renderings with locally available materials you can specify confidently.

What is a PBR Texture and Why Use Them?

Physically Based Rendering (PBR) textures are a set of digital maps (or files) used by designers and architects to accurately depict real-world materials in digital renderings. Compatible with most 3D modeling software, PBR textures allow you to showcase your designs in ultrarealistic detail under different lighting conditions and from any angle.

PBR textures provide several important benefits for landscape designers and architects:

Unparalleled Realism – The accuracy of PBR textures in simulating actual material properties and real-world lighting conditions in up to 16K resolution makes it easy for your clients to visualize how their project will look as the light changes throughout the day.

Faster Material Selection – Incorporating real products that are readily available in your local market and accurately showing your clients how they will look in their projects provides a smoother, faster approval process without the need to manage a lot of physical samples. Early material approval is especially important when your designs call for custom-fabricated stone which often has a longer lead time.

Time Savings – Eliminate the need to spend hours searching for or manually creating your own generic textures. Simply download the files and place them in your renderings for fast, realistic results.

Software Compatibility – PBR textures are compatible with most industry-leading software including Revit, Sketchup, 3DS Max and many, many more.

Key Components of PBR Textures

Each of our textures is available in resolutions from 1K to 16K and includes the following maps that combine to create the most photorealistic 3D renderings under any lighting conditions and from any angle. Higher resolution maps produce superior results but will require additional time to render.

Diffuse Map defines the base colour and pattern of the stone without specular reflection or shadows.

Normal Map adds realism by simulating the surface microstructure of the stone, dictating the direction in which light will reflect.

Gloss Map controls how light scatters or reflects off the stone based on the roughness of its surface.

Reflection Map specifies the colour and intensity of light reflection.

Displacement Map adds depth and relief to the surface of the stone.

These new PBR textures mirror the true beauty of natural stone with unparalleled realism. Download one texture or the entire collection and bring your virtual landscapes to life.
